Media, Comms, Science, Space, and Transit (yes, transit)

Hello! Welcome. ようこそ。

Love what you’re wearing, it suits you perfectly. Keep rocking it!

My name is Andrew Ferreira and I’m a graduate of Royal Roads University’s Bachelor of the Arts in Professional Communications program. I previously worked as a producer for Global News Radio CKNW in Vancouver, and did my time at BCIT’s Radio Arts & Entertainment program, graduating with honours in 2018. As of January 2023, I’ve also achieved N2 (Business) fluency in Japanese.

I ply my trade (trades?) as a science interpreter at Vancouver’s H.R. MacMillan Space Centre, and I host my own segment on Global’s overnight radio program, The Shift. I wear the Public Relations Coordinator (as well as Speakers’ Chair) hat for the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada’s Vancouver branch and so if you’d like to reach out to me in that capacity, feel free to do so at publicrelations [at] rasc-vancouver.com

Diversity Statement and Acknolwedgements

As the child of two immigrant parents, the struggle to fit in and define my own identity is one that continues to this day. Being adjacent to many of Vancouver’s racialized communities and the variety of diasporic groups that make up the fabric of the city, I take it upon myself to help uplift the voices of those whose platform has been taken away, is too small, or otherwise. This principle has guided me in all of my professional and academic work and is something that I hold dear to my heart.

I gratefully live, work, study, and play upon the unceded lands and territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. The lessons and wisdom carried down by generation upon generation of the traditional stewards of these lands is another gift and message that I hold close to my heart and mind, and speak loudly about when appropriate. I hope that you’ll also take a moment to reflect upon the spaces in which you live as a way to appreciate those who came before us, those of us here now, and those of us who have yet to come.

My CV

I’ve been acting in the science and professional communications field since 2017, starting out with BCIT’s own radio station, Peace FM in the BC Peace Region, all the way to Global News Radio CKNW in Vancouver, and the H.R. MacMillan Space Centre.

Every photo used on this website was also taken by me, photography is a side passion!
